For some reason, after a very long hiatus I have begun to bake again. This is a pflaumenkuchen which, having German paternal grandparents, is the essence of mid-summer for me; even after all these years. Unfortunately my grandmother's recipe passed on along with my Aunt so I am attempting to reconstruct it from my taste memory. This one was good, but the plums were the wrong variety & a bit sour. I didn't mind as I like sour but for the "taste of the past", the real temp perdu, I'm going to have to find those small, navy blue Italian prune plums.
